It was good. Very good. Solid as a rock, cleanest 10 year-old car I've ever seen here in Montreal. The current owner is very particular about maintenance and has all the records.

It's not a handsome truck, but it's probably one billion times more reliable than that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Now I need to make a responsible decision... You would think that this would be easy, but it's not!

I owned a 1994 and a 2004 they were bulletproof. Great rigs.

This was a 2005 SR5 with a V8, it was so solid. The difference in luxury between this and the Land Rover was startling, but I don't need all the extra gadgets, I just want them!

You can't really go wrong with one, but I am biased. The aftermarket is very strong, and affordable. The money you will save on it not breaking, can fund another car as well.

But the maintenance costs on the Landy...

I know, but have you driven a well-sorted LR3 with working air suspension? Glorious!

But the luxury! That air suspension! Sigh...

I will say watch the tranny on the V8.

On the Rover? From what I've heard, it's the diffs that can be explosive.

No the Toy. What it comes down to is previous owners tow WAY too much and it degrades the trans.

Nope, I have ridden in a Supercharged RR, and it was super comfortable. Though it and it's 24" Giovanni's weren't going anywhere off the road. Also, some Land Cruisers are equipped with air suspension.

The current owner renovates and flips houses on the side and hauls a small trailer of tools. It doesn't look like much to worry about.

The prices are strong here, especially for V8 models. This one still has some depreciating to do, but it's in very good condition.

Yeah, with the 18" wheels and air it was like floating on a cloud, very car-like. The Toyota was smooth on the highway but at low speed you could tell you were driving a truck.

Yes — loved our 07 v8.

Would still have it, but it was totalled.

My last vehicle was an '05 4Runner SR5, and it was fantastic. Very practical, decently efficient, had a fair amount of power, and even with RWD and all-seasons it handled the Illinois winter just fine. I don't think you will be disappointed with one.

In what will you do the Vermont Overland in? What are your needs?

It's all depend on what your goal with the vehicle. My former Land Cruiser didn't have any comfort: no AC (and engine/trans was giving heat in the cabin), rough ride, worn out seats, etc. But it was a great off-road truck, when I needed comfort, I was driving my girlfriend car but I was never near a trail or forest road. But my needs changed and needed something else...

If the 4Runner doesn't AC, you might find it pretty hot in the summer trail, even more if you have kids with you! But you have the rear window that goes down for a good draft.

Since I'm not doing the full rally this year, only the day trips, basically anything would work. I would definitely use a stock LR3 for that.

The truck I will buy needs to do both - good on-road manners and good off-road performance.

A decision has been made and news will be forthcoming in the following days.
